SUBJECT: INSTALLING NEW STYLE CRANKSHAFT ISSUE: 01/88-1022 PULLEY ON EARLIER CARS


APPLICATION: 1986 9000 MODELS WITH ENGINE NUMBER G093341 OR EARLIER
From Engine Number G093341 a new crankshaft pulley was introduced into new car production. The new pulley (P/N 75-68-439) has revised guide flanges for the poly-V drive belt and replaces the earlier pulley P/N 75-01-380. Effective immediately, only the new pulley is available from the spare parts system.

When installing the new pulley (P/N 75- 68-439) on a car built before Engine Number G093341, the aluminum belt tensioner support for the poly-V belt tensioner must be modified according to the directions below. This Service Information deals only with the belt tensioner support modification.
Modification Details

1. Remove the inner plastic, fender liner and pulley per the 9000 Service Manual Section 2:1, page 216-7.

2. Remove the belt tensioner arm and support (see Figure 1).

3. Mount the aluminum support in a soft-jawed vice.

4. Carefully cut the tensioner support with a hacksaw as shown in Figure 2. Remove any sharp edges left by cutting.

5. Reinstall the tensioner support. Install the belt tensioner, pulley and fender liner as described in the Service Manual.
