Pressure-Testing the Turbo System

Pressure-Testing The Turbo System

Tools:
- Pressure testing equipment 83 93 514
- Pressure/yacuum pump 30 14 883
- Plug 83 94 587
- Nipple 83 94 595

1 Disconnect the delivery pipe from the turbo- charger.

2 Fit plug 83 94 587. Tighten the hose clip and lower the car.

3 Detach the turbo delivery pipe from the throttle body. Fit the plug with nipple 83 94 595. Tighten the hose clip.

4 Connect pressure testing equipment 83 93 514 to the nipple.

5 Connect pressure/vacuum pump 30 14 883 to the charge air bypass valve's vacuum hose and pump up a pressure of about 0.5 bar.

Important: Exercise caution when pressurizing the turbo system. Excessively high pressure could damage hoses and fittings.

6 Connect a compressed-air gun to the pressure testing equipment and carefully build up a pressure of about 1 bar.

7 Check that the pressure does not drop by more than 0.1 bar in 30 seconds. If it drops by more than this or if a hissing sound can be heard, check the hoses, pipes and fittings for leakage.

8 Remove the equipment and reconnect all pipes and hoses.

9 Check the purge valve's non-return valve, see "Checking the EVAP canister purge valve".

10 Check the non-return valve in the thin crankcase ventilation hose. It should seal against pressure from the intake manifold.
