INTRODUCTION
This service campaign affects early 1985 model year Saab Turbos. The campaign consists of two separate modifications and owner notices. Manual transmission equipped cars within the VIN Serial No. range must have the distributor rotor secured with Loctite to the distributor shaft.
Cars with automatic transmissions must have the distributor rotor secured with Loctite and certain cars must also be inspected for a possible defective oil cooler line and improper routing of the automatic transmission cooler lines.
Purchasers of affected vehicles will receive a service campaign notice to inform them that they are eligible to have the above problems corrected at no charge. Owner notices will be mailed once the supply of Loctite and primer has been shipped to the dealers (est.late-November). Any other parts such as oil cooler lines must be ordered on an "as-needed" basis. Not all Turbo automatics are affected.
Vehicles wholesaled after 11/1/84 have already been modified.

MODIFICATION INSTRUCTIONS
LOCTITE IGNITION ROTOR (SEE NOTICE A - TURBOS F1000001 - F1010515)
1. Remove the distributor cap and by hand remove the rotor. If it cannot be removed, refit the distributor cap. No further inspection is necessary and you may move to step no. 8. If the rotor can be removed by hand, proceed with the following repair procedure.
2. After removing the rotor, remove the plastic protection cover. Cut out of heavy paper a round disc with an outer diameter of 3 in. (75 mm) and a center hole of approx. 5/8" (15 mm) and place over the distributor shaft. This prevents contamination of internal distributor parts.
3. Clean the distributor shaft and inside of rotor with Locquic Primer T. Do not allow cleaner to enter the distributor.
Let the parts air dry for at least 5 minutes. Do not dry with a rag.
4. Remove the paper disc and refit the plastic cover.
5. Apply Loctite 609 evenly around the shaft.
6. Refit the rotor and distributor cover.
7. Allow the vehicle to sit for at least 1/2 hour. Refer to the instructions on the bottle of Loctite for set-up recommendations.
8. Mark the campaign plate, numeral 8 in box A4. Refer to the instructions in S.I. 10/84-717.
NOTE! Cars which did not need modification may already have a mark in box A4. If so, do not disturb the mark.

INSPECT/CORRECT AT COOLER HOSES (SEE NOTICE B - TURBO AUTOMATIC F1000001 - F1006131)
1. M85 Turbo Automatics up to F1006131 may have a defective oil cooler line.
a. Inspect hose 75-43-713 (Figure 1, hose no. 2) between the right front oil cooler and the oil thermostat housing for correct material specification and marking. Replace the hose if it has a dull finish and is marked "OLNH". (The correct hose is shiny and is marked "OLNHT".)
Material required, if necessary: hose 75-43-713.
FIGURE 2:
b. Regardless of hose type, loosen the hose's tube end coupling at the oil thermostat and rotate the hose as far forward as possible (Figure 2, hose no. 2). Obtain at least 0.4 in. (10 mm) clearance between this hose and the starter cable. Retighten. Also ensure that neither oil cooler hose rubs against the battery heat shield, battery holddown screw or radiator support flange or any clips fastened to that flange.
2. M85 Turbo Automatics up to F1005686 must have the oil cooler lines from the top of the oil thermostat to the transmission primary housing rerouted so it cannot contact the front powertrain mount. The routing of the plus cable to the starter must also be checked and adjusted, if necessary.
FIGURE 1:
a. Remove the hood.
b. Loosen the ignition coil clamp and place the coil to one side.
c. Disconnect the APC solenoid and place it to one side.
d. Remove the tube between the intercooler and the turbocharger.
e. Loosen the automatic transmission's oil dipstick tube and twist the tube rearwards.
f. Disconnect the cooling fan cable harness and remove the cooling fans.
g. Disconnect the oil cooler hose with the 180~ bent tube end (Figure 1, hose no. 1) at the oil thermostat and then loosen the thermostat anchor screw.
FIGURE 2:
g. Place the detached oil hose above the hose between the thermostat and the left side of the transmission housing (hose no. 3) with its 180~ tube end in front of the connecting hoses to the oil cooler. See Figure 2. On vehicles below VIN Serial No. F1003827, hose no. 3 must first be loosened and the tube end rotated so its pre-formed bend drops downward as shown in Figure 2. In order to rotate hose no. 3 this way it may be necessary to loosen the banjo connection at the transmission end of the hose.
h. Fasten the hoses one on top of the other with an extra tie strap as shown in Figure 2, position 4.
i. Check and adjust the routing of the plus cable to the starter as follows:
1. Check that the cable is not too taut between the clamp at the engine compartment beam by the battery tray and the clamp on the bell housing by the dipstick tube. If necessary, loosen the clamp at the beam and pull some cable from under the battery.
2. Check that the cable is clipped to oil cooler hose no. 1 with a white "stand off". If not, check that there is at least 0.4 in. (10 mm) between the cable and the dipstick tube bracket (Figure 2). Adjust as necessary at the clamp by the dipstick tube. Note: On Turbo automatics this clamp should be attached to the rearmost hole of the flat bracket on the primary housing.
3. Check that the cable does not rest against the wastegate actuator housing.
j. Re-install the loosened and removed parts and install tie straps where they had been used previously. Warm-up the engine and check for possible leaks.
