With New Ext Gear-Change Mechanism For 4/ 5-Speed Gearboxes

A new external gear-change mechanism has been introduced on 4-speed and 5-speed gearboxes within the chassis numbers listed below:
As from AC1009986 up to and incl. 1009555
As from AC1009688 up to and incl. 10010081
As from AC2002819 up to and incl. 2002997
As from AC1019986
As from AC2007012
As from A03006959, 4-speed
As from AC3007496, 5-speed, carburettor engine
As from AC3007759, 5-speed, injection engine
As from AC6001776
As from BC6008945

TO ADJUST THE GEAR POSITIONS
1. Engage reverse gear.





2. Release the clamp on the selector rod universal joint, so that the selector rod can move inside the universal joint.
3. Lock the gear lever in the reverse position by inserting a 6 mm (1/4 in) diameter screwdriver or drift into the locating hole in the gear lever housing and selector rod. The locating holes are accessible when the cover over the gear lever housing has been removed.

4. Check that reverse gear is fully engaged in the gearbox.
5. Tighten the clamp on the selector rod universal joint.
Tightening torque: 30-35 Nm (22-25 lb ft)
Use bolt part No. 75 41 907 and nut 79 75 502.

NOTE: 5-speed gearbox: After completing presetting and adjustment, check that, when the gear lever is in neutral, it is in line with the 3rd/4th gates. If the position of the gear lever is displaced to the side, adjust the guide bracket.
