Accel. Enrichment After Hot Start

SYSTEM FAILURE SYMPTOMS:
Hesitation on acceleration for a short period after restarting a hot engine which has been shut down more than 30 minutes.

TEST:

1. Plug in the pump relay, distributor primary lead and thermo-time switch.

2. Remove the acceleration enrichment pulse relay (D). Connect a jumper wire between terminals 31 and 31b.

3. Start engine and operate until temperature gauge reads above the 1/4 point - shut off engine.

4. Install the time relay (C-B).

5. Connect a test light from +12V to the blue lead on the cold start injector plug.

6. Start the engine. The test light should come on and remain lit for 100 seconds. BECAUSE OF THE TIMING FUNCTION BUILT INTO THE RELAY, THE SYSTEM CANNOT BE POSITIVELY DIAGNOSED AS DEFECTIVE UNTIL THE ENGINE HAS BEEN RUN BRIEFLY, SHUT DOWN AND ALLOWED TO SIT UNDISTURBED FOR SLIGHTLY MORE THAN 30 MINUTES BEFORE REPEATING STEPS 5 AND 6.

7. Recheck by stopping and restarting the engine after the light goes out. The light should not come back on again.

If inoperative, check at the time relay socket:

Terminal 30 +12V
Terminal 50 +12V when cranking
Terminal 15 +12V with fuel pump relay bypassed
Terminal 31 gnd. through thermal contact on thermostat housing (depending on engine temperature see step 3 above).
