Until September, 1983, the Saab Guard Alarm Kit, P/N 02-10-559 was supplied with a dual ground circuit switch to be used for the driver's door. This switch was necessary on cars built before mid-1982 (VIN C1010524) in order to let the alarm arm itself when the driver's door, was closed. If this switch was not used, the alarm would not arm because of voltage feedback through the diode in the key buzzer relay.
This dual ground switch, P/N 85-06-586, is no longer available. If you have a pre-VIN -C1010524 car with either a bad dual ground door switch or in which you are going to install a new alarm kit (less the switch), follow the procedure outlined below:
Saab Guard-equipped cars with bad door switch
1. Replace the existing key buzzer relay with the new style, P/N 85-74-931.
2. Disconnect the gray wire for the driver's door switch and cut the gray door switch wire at the junction of the gray and gray/black wires near the alarm module (located under rear seat). Tape exposed wire to prevent shorts. All side doors should now work through the gray/black wire connecting the module with the key buzzer relay.
3. Replace defective switch with original equipment switch (PJN 85-77-793) and boot (P/N 85-68-883).
Installing Saab Guard on cars built before VIN -C1010524
1. Replace the existing key buzzer relay with the new style, P/N 85-74-931.
2. Connect the gray wire to the double black wire of the key buzzer relay.
NOTE! This procedure will also work on Saab Guard-equipped cars with complaints of the alarm being set off in the rain. The double ground switch can be replaced with the original equipment switch and rubber boot.
