Fig. 12 Typical instrument panel removal.:
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove instrument panel as follows:
a. Remove steering wheel cover, mark installation position of steering wheel in relation to shaft, then loosen but do not remove steering wheel retaining nut.
b. Grasp steering wheel and give it a quick pull to disengage wheel from shaft, then remove nut and steering wheel. Do not tap against steering shaft to release wheel as the steering column will be damaged.
c. Remove upper and lower steering column covers, instrument cluster, console tray and console switches.
d. Remove gearshift lever boot, then release clips at positions (1) and (2), Fig. 12, and lift out console.
e. Remove instrument panel screws (3), (4) and (5).
f. Remove nut securing ground wire to steering column.
g. Lift instrument panel up to clear defroster duct and release clips (6), Fig. 12, disconnect necessary electrical connectors and remove instrument panel.
3. Remove blower motor assembly attaching screws, then disconnect junction block.
4. Clamp heater core hoses with suitable clamps, then disconnect hoses at firewall.
5. Remove heater housing assembly by pulling it out to the right.
6. Bend out 4 lock tabs securing heater core and remove core from housing.
7. Reverse procedure to install.
