The fuel injector consists of a valve body and an injector needle with a magnetic core, Fig. 2. A signal from the control unit creates a magnetic field in the magnetic winding which lifts the core from its seat. Opening time is determined by the control unit and depends on engine operating conditions. The injector is located in the intake tube and injects fuel ahead of the intake valve. Two injections occur per cylinder for each rotation of the camshaft with each injection providing one-half the amount of fuel required for one complete engine cycle. This ensures even fuel distribution.
