Oil Pump: Service and Repair

1. Drain engine oil, then remove oil pan.
2. Remove oil pump.
3. Remove oil pump pressure relief valve (6) from pump housing, Fig. 37.
4. Remove oil pump housing cover.
5. Measure gear-to-housing clearance. Minimum clearance is .002 inch (.05 mm). Maximum clearance is .005 inch (.12 mm).
6. Measure gear-to-cover clearance. Minimum clearance is .001 inch. Maximum clearance is .004 inch (.10 mm).
7. Replace any worn parts, then reassemble.
8. Install oil pump. Torque bolts to 30-33 ft.lbs.
9. Install oil pan using new gasket.
