Exhaust Pipe: Service and Repair
REMOVALThe tailpipes can be serviced as individual components.
1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. Support muffler with jack stand.
3. Apply penetrating oil and loosen the Band clamp fastener of component being removed.
NOTE: Use only a soap and water solution to lubricate the rubber exhaust isolators for exhaust assembly/disassembly.
4. Remove rubber isolators from the exhaust system supports.
5. Remove tailpipe(s).
INSTALLATION
1. Install the tailpipe(s) into muffler. Do not tighten Band clamp at this time.
2. Install the rubber isolators on the exhaust system supports.
3. Visually inspect the isolators. They should be straight when viewing from front to back of the vehicle. Align tailpipes to maintain proper clearance with underbody parts.
CAUTION: Band (Torca) clamps should never be tightened such that the two sides of the clamps are bottomed out against the center hourglass shaped reaction block. Once this occurs the clamp has lost its clamping force and must be replaced.
4. Position and tighten Band clamps to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
5. Remove jack stand and lower vehicle.
