Folding Top Cover

FOLDING TOP COVER

REMOVAL

1. Open doors and deck lid.
2. Raise top and lift up #4 bow and back lite section of the convertible top.
3. Disconnect the wire connectors on both sides of the back lite.
4. Lower convertible top.
5. Remove the front rail seals on both sides.
6. Remove fasteners and retainers on both sides.

CAUTION: If the double sided foam tape under the retainer tears, it will need replaced.

7. Remove the header compression panel from header starting at corners.
8. Remove staples attaching cloth to header.
9. Carefully pry apart the glue flaps attaching cloth to header.
10. Raise top and lift up #4 bow and back lite section of the convertible top.
11. Remove screws from the front cable springs on both sides.
12. Slide the cable through the cloth top cable sleeves on both sides.
13. Remove screws from the second bow attaching listing bar and cloth to bow.
14. Slide the listing bar from the listing bar pocket on the top.

NOTE: Flip the top 112 way up to access the cable springs.

15. Remove the rear cable spring screws on both sides.

NOTE: Lower top stack and peel back cover to expose staples on the #3 bow.

16. Remove staples attaching cloth to #3 bow.

NOTE: Pull cover forward and lift up back lite to access the rear seals.

17. Remove the rear seal from the #4 bow that mate to the top of the deck lid.
18. Drill out seal retainer pop rivets.

NOTE: The retainer consists of 2 pieces.

19. Lower #4 bow and peel top cloth from bow.
20. Pull rear cable through cloth on both sides.
21. Remove convertible top cloth from vehicle.

NOTE: Prior to installation, check the condition of the staypads and the cable. If cut or damaged, replace staypads and/or cable.

INSTALLATION

1. Set new convertible top cloth on #3 bow and clamp.
2. Position rear portion of top cloth to #4 bow and clamp.
3. Clamp carrier strip to #3 bow attaching staple locations and pull top cloth full forward.

NOTE: Do not secure convertible top cloth to the structure at this time. Use clamps to loosely secure the top cloth in position.

4. Hook mechanic wire onto the rear cable and pull through cloth on both sides of top cloth.
5. Lift the #4 bow to the up position.
6. Fit top cloth over the #4 bow corners making sure to fit the plastic tab on the back side of the #4 bow.
7. Flip up the back lite and #4 bow.
8. Clamp the 2 piece seal retainers to the #4 bow.
9. Install pop rivets and align top cloth retainer to bow.
10. Install rear seat/weatherstrip.

NOTE: Put #4 bow down and latch.

11. Latch top frame to the front header.
12. Peel cloth back to expose the #3 bow and unhook the 2 clamps previously installed.
13. Pull cloth taunt and re-clamp in center.
14. Staple the center a couple of times with 3/8 staples.
15. Pull cloth forward at right and left corners using vise grips.
16. Twist vise grips pulling cloth taunt and install 5 staples to each side working to the center.
17. Install 3/8 staples from the center out.

NOTE: When you get to the center, remove the center staples, re-staple and trim off excess. Make sure it is flush to the edge.

18. Pull cloth forward to the #2 bow.
19. Install listing bar through cloth.

NOTE: Unhook the front and rear latches, and open deck lid. Position the front of the convertible top in an upward position. Position the cloth with listing bar up to the #2 bow and properly seat.

20. Install fasteners attaching listing bar to #2 bow.
21. Lower front of convertible top.
22. Attach rear cables to top frame.
23. Using mechanic's wire pull the front cables through the cable sleeves on both sides of top cloth.
24. Tuck glue flap over and clamp.

NOTE: Close deck lid and latch top at rear.

25. Pull on cloth at front of the header and create good tension.
26. With an appropriate marking pencil, make a reference line on the edge of top header with the tension applied.
27. Open deck lid and fully open convertible top.
28. Remove clamps attaching top cloth at header.
29. Staple a preliminary row of 3/16 staples attaching the cloth to the header.
30. Close top and latch header.

NOTE: Check to see the tension of the cloth. If there is not enough tension, remark the cloth at the header edge. Remove preliminary staples and re-staple to the new markings. This process needs to be continued until there is enough cloth tension and the cloth is taunt and stretched smoothly over the bows.

NOTE: Open deck lid and lower top.

31. Complete the final header bow stapling.
32. Glue the rest of the flaps and ensure that all staples are good.
33. Trim off the excess cloth at the rear edge of the header tacking strip.
34. Install the seal compression panel.
35. Install the left and right seal retainers.
36. Install seals and clips.

NOTE: Fold top up and position the back lite in an up position.

37. Attach the left and right front cables.

NOTE: Make sure that the front cables go over and not under the rear cables.

38. Engage back lite wire connectors.
39. Verify operation and adjust as necessary.
