Timing Cover: Service and Repair
CAUTION: Camshaft or crankshaft should not be rotated after timing belt is removed. Damage to valve components may occur. Always align timing marks before removing timing belt.FRONT TIMING BELT COVER
REMOVAL
1. Remove accessory drive belts. Refer to Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories for procedure.

2. Raise vehicle on a hoist and remove right inner splash shield (Fig. 51).

3. Remove crankshaft damper bolt. Remove damper using Special Tool 1026 and Insert 6827-A (Fig. 52).
4. Lower vehicle and place a jack under engine.
5. Remove right engine mount.
6. Remove right engine mount bracket.

7. Remove front timing belt cover fasteners and remove cover (Fig. 53).
INSTALLATION
1. Install front timing cover.
2. Install engine mount bracket.
3. Install right engine mount.
4. Remove jack from under engine.
5. Install crankshaft damper
6. Install accessory drive belts.
7. Raise vehicle on hoist and install right inner splash shield.
REAR TIMING BELT COVER
REMOVAL
1. Remove front timing belt cover, refer to Timing Components.
2. Remove timing belt.

3. Hold camshaft sprockets with Special Tools C-4687 and Adapter C-4687-1, while removing attaching bolts (Fig. 54). Remove camshaft sprockets.
4. Remove timing belt tensioner assembly.
5. Remove rear timing cover attaching screws.
6. Remove rear timing cover.
INSTALLATION
1. Install rear timing cover.
2. Install camshaft sprockets. While holding sprockets with Special Tools C-4687 and Adapter C-4687-1, tighten attaching bolts to 101 Nm (75 ft. lbs.).
3. Install timing belt tensioner assembly.
4. Install timing belt.
5. Install front timing belt cover.
