Service Procedure
A. Replace Primary Air Bleed Jet1. Drain about one gallon of engine coolant from the radiator and save for later use.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Remove throttle return spring.
4. Remove carburetor following Service Manual procedures.
Figure 1:
5. Remove Primary Air Bleed Jet (Figure 1).
6. Install new Primary Air Bleed Jet included in the emissions service parts package.
NOTE: When removing and installing the Primary Air Bleed Jet, use a screwdriver that is an exact fit in the slot. Work carefully to prevent any damage.
B. Install Carburetor Choke Adjustment Shim
1. Insert the provided fast idle release tool between the fast idle cam lever and the wax element housing.
NOTE: Insert the tool so that there is no interference with the throttle lever movement.
2. Turn tool counterclockwise (about 45 degrees) until the tool is wedged into position. This provides the needed clearance between the choke adjusting screw and the plunger.
NOTE: Rotate the throttle lever to a fully open position for easier shim installation.
3. Using the installation stick attached to the choke shim, install the shim on the choke adjusting screw.
4. Rotate the fast idle release tool clockwise and remove.
5. Detach the installation stick from the shim by twisting the stick until it breaks free from the shim.
6. Insure that the choke adjusting shim is securely installed between the plunger and the adjusting screw.
C. Reinstall Carburetor
1. Reinstall carburetor using the Service Manual procedure. Use a new carburetor gasket from the emissions service parts package.
2. Reinstall throttle return spring.
3. Refill radiator coolant.
D. Inspect Secondary Air Filter
Figure 5:
1. Remove screws securing secondary air filter case to air cleaner assembly (Figure 5).
2. Inspect condition of secondary air filter. If oil has contaminated over one-half of the air filter's surface, replace filter. If the contamination is less than one-half, clean filter by blowing compressed air through the filter element.
3. Reinstall secondary air filter case on air cleaner assembly.
4. Reinstall air cleaner assembly.
