Engine Ignition






The crankshaft position sensor:
^ is a variable reluctance sensor.
^ provides base timing and crankshaft speed information to the powertrain control module (PCM).
^ is triggered by a 36-minus-1 tooth trigger wheel mounted on the crankshaft.

The CKP sensor:
^ sends the PCM a signal indicating crankshaft position.
^ is essential for calculating spark timing.
^ sends the PCM signals to indicate engine rpm.
