Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair
Removal1. Remove the heat shield.
2. Disconnect the Three-Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) from the manifold.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.
4. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor electrical connector.
1 Disconnect the electrical connector.
2 Unclip the wiring.
5. Disconnect the flange connection
6. Detach the hanger insulator.
7. Remove the TWC and flexible pipe assembly.
1 Loosen the nuts.
2 Remove the nut and bolt.
3 Remove the TWC and flexible pipe assembly.
Installation
CAUTION: The hanger insulators are constructed of a special material. Use only the correct specification insulators.
1. Install the TWC.
1 Position the TWC and flexible pipe assembly.
2 Install the nut and bolt.
3 Tighten the bolts.
2. NOTE: Check the hanger insulators for damage or fatigue. Install now insulators if required.
Install the hanger insulator,
^ Lubricate the exhaust hanger insulators with Myrpol Lubricant D7AZ-19553-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M9913144-13.
3. NOTE: Install a new gasket and nuts. Loosely connect the flange joint.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. CAUTION: Never use jointing compound forward of the catalytic converter.
Tighten the nuts.
6. Install the heat shield.
7. Raise and support the vehicle.
8. Tighten the nuts.
9. Connect the heated oxygen sensor electrical connector.
^ Clip the wiring in position.
10. Lower the vehicle.
