Campaign - Replace Oil Drain Screw At A/C Compressor

Model 204 with Engine 271, Model Year 2012

Replace Oil Drain Screw at A/C Compressor

This Service Campaign has been initiated because Daimler AG (DAG) has determined that the oil drain screw at the A/C compressor may leak due to a supplier material coating issue. Dealers will check, and if necessary replace the oil drain screw at the A/C compressor at the next workshop visit.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

^ Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.

^ Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.

Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Approximately 15,935 vehicles are affected.

Procedure

A. Check Manufacturer of A/C Compressor





1. Check if A/C compressor (A, Figure 1) has a hexagon head bolt (arrow, Figure 1) installed:

^ If A/C compressor (A) has a hexagon head bolt (arrow) installed proceed to Subject B: Check Oil Drain Screw on A/C Compressor.

Note:

A/C compressor from Valeo has a hexagon head bolt (arrow) installed.

^ If A/C compressor has a plastic cover (B) installed Procedure is complete.

Note:

A/C compressor with a plastic cover (B) on belt pulley is manufactured by Denso.

B. Check Oil Drain Screw on A/C Compressor





1. Check A/C compressor oil drain screw for existing black or green marking (arrow, Figure 2):

Note:

A/C compressor oil drain screw (B) is located on top of A/C compressor:

^ If black or green marking (arrow) is present: Procedure is complete.

^ If black or green marking (arrow) is not present: Proceed to Subject C: Replace A/C Compressor Oil Drain Screw.

C. Replace A/C Compressor Oil Drain Screw

1. Empty air conditioning; refer to WIS: AR83.30-P-1760CW.

Note (regarding above WIS instructions):

^ Steps 4 and 11 do not apply to this campaign.

^ Add additional A/C refrigerant and/or approved compressor oil only if required (refer to parts table).

2. Remove engine intake air duct (A, Figure 2) upstream of air filter.

3. Replace oil drain screw (B) and torque new drain screw to 10 Nm.

Note:

^ New compressor drain screw 0-ring should be packaged with compressor oil lubrication already applied to the 0-ring. In the event 0-ring is not lubricated, 0-ring must be lubricated with approved A/C compressor oil (refer to parts table).

^ Use box wrench bit: W 140 589 00 03 00 (or equivalent) to replace drain screw (B).

3. Evacuate A/C and refill (AR83.30-P-1760CW) refer also to notes in step 1.

4. Check A/C for proper performance and visually check for leaks in area of compressor drain screw (arrow, Figure 2).

5. Assemble in reverse order.
