GF30.20-P-2020MLK Throttle Valve Actuator, Component Description
- ENGINE 113.989 in MODEL 171.473 as of Model Year 09 /Modification Year 08 model refinement package

M16/6 Throttle valve actuator

Location
The throttle valve actuator is located at the rear on the variable intake manifold.

Task
The throttle valve actuator regulates the functions:
- Idle speed
- Driving mode (according to accelerator pedal position and engine load)
- Cruise control mode
- Electronic accelerator emergency mode

Function
The actuator motor (M16/6m1) in the throttle valve actuator adjusts the opening angle of the throttle valve continuously from approx. 0 to 90° according to specifications from the ME-SFI [ME ] control unit (N3/10).
Both counter-moving actual value potentiometers 1 and 2 (M16/6r1, M16/6r2) inform the ME-SFI [ME] control unit about the current position of the throttle valve.

At zero voltage (for example, in limp-home mode), the opening angle of the throttle valve (10 to 12°) is determined by the return spring (limp-home position).

For first time connection of a throttle valve actuator to the vehicle the ME-SFI [ME] control unit automatically executes adaptation of the actuator.
The adaptation is performed within about 60 s after first energization (ignition ON) and contains:
- Identified limp-home position
- Identified lower mechanical end stop of throttle valve
- Matches the actual value amplifier (signals 1 and 2) in the ME-SFI [ME] control unit.
- Checking the return spring

The throttle valve actuator can also be adapted manually using the DAS.
