Fuel Pressure Sensor: Description and Operation
GF07.61-P-6022MAR Component Description For The Fuel Pressure Sensor

- as of model year 09
Component Identification:
Location
The pressure sensor is located at the front on the left side of the fuel distribution rail.
Task
The pressure sensor detects the fuel pressure (absolute pressure) in the fuel distribution rail.
The fuel pressure is evaluated by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) for requirement-oriented actuation of the fuel pump control unit (N118).
The fuel temperature is also detected by the pressure sensor but not evaluated by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit.
Function
The fuel pressure is measured by a capacitive measuring element integrated in the pressure sensor.
When fuel pressure increases, the gap between the capacitor electrodes decreases. The capacitance, and therefore the signal voltage, thus increase in proportion to the fuel pressure.
The ME-SFI control unit then uses the signal voltage (about 0.3 to 4.8 V) as an indicator of fuel pressure.
The pressure measurement range of the pressure sensor is 0.5 to 10 bar.
