R4 Spark plugs
T1/8 Ignition coil cylinder 8
Location
The spark plugs are screwed into the cylinder head, one into the top center of each cylinder.
Task
Spark plugs ignite the suctioned and compressed fuel-air mixture due to arcing between electrodes.
Function
The ignition voltage flows from the ignition lines of the directly plugged in ignition coils (T1) to the spark plugs and causes arcing in the air gap between the central electrode and ground electrode.
All spark plug characteristics are defined by type symbols provided by the manufacturer (e.g. heat rating, seat shape, thread, width across flats, electrode material, spark position).
