Fuel Injector: Description and Operation

GF07.03-P-6010MAR Fuel Injection Valves, Component Description
- as of model year 09

Component Identification:

Location
The fuel injection valves (Y62) are inserted in the intake ports on the variable intake manifold and are fixed in place by the fuel distribution rail.

Task
The fuel injection valves spray a calculated fuel quantity at a specifically determined point in time, finely atomized, into the intake port of the respective cylinder.

Design
The diameter and number of the outlet holes in the multi-hole nozzle are adapted to the engine fuel (power) requirement.

Component Identification:

Function
When magnet coil (5) is energized, nozzle needle (8) is lifted about 0.1 mm by solenoid armature (6) against coil spring (13).
The fuel escapes through the multi-hole nozzle (a) and is sprayed into the intake port in a finely atomized spray.

Each of the fuel injection values is directly actuated in sequence via ground impulses of appropriate length from the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10).
The voltage supply takes place from "circuit 87 M1".

Sequential actuation means that a fuel quantity (injection quantity) is calculated for each cylinder and supplied to the cylinder.
