GF32.31-P-5116SX Comfort/Sport Switch and Manual, Component Description

GF32.31-P-5116SX Comfort/sport switch and manual, component description
- except CODE (494) USA version
- up to model year 08

Component Identification:

The transmission modes button is located in the front central operating unit. The driver can choose between the transmission modes "S" (sport), "C" (comfort) and "M" (manual).

Different suspension conditions belong to the transmission modes:
^ In the transmission mode Comfort "C" the suspension is tuned softer
^ In transmission mode Sport "S" the suspension is tuned harder.
^ In transmission mode Manual "M" the suspension is tuned harder as in transmission mode Sport "S".

Transmission mode ("C" or "S") selected when driving forwards is also active when drive position "R" (reverse gear) is engaged.

The operations of the transmission modes button are read in by the front central operating unit and placed on the telematics CAN. The instrument cluster receives the signal via the COMAND control unit (A40/3) and places it on the central CAN for passing on to the (A1) central gateway control unit (N93).

The selection of the comfort or sport performance map is stored in the instrument cluster so that after an engine start the same performance map is valid as before switching off the ignition. The AIRmatic with ADS control unit (N51) receives the signal "S", "C" or "M" from the central gateway control unit via the chassis CAN.

The transmission modes button has a dual function:
^ Adjustment of the chassis conditions and
^ Preselection of shift strategy for DIRECT SELECT. The transmission mode Comfort "C" shifts more gently and sooner than the transmission mode Sport "S". With transmission mode "M" the driver can shift the gears manually via the left steering wheel gear shifter (S110/2) and right steering wheel gear shifter (S111/2).

Component Identification:

The current transmission mode "C", "M" or "S" is displayed in the lower status display of the instrument cluster.
