Campaign - Subframe Strut Removal

MODEL 204 4MATIC, MODEL YEAR 2008

REMOVAL OF STRUTS BETWEEN FRONT SUBFRAME AND FRAME RAIL

This Service Campaign has been initiated because DCAG has determined that on the affected vehicles the struts between the front subframe and frame rail must be removed. The struts are ONLY intended for vehicles without 4MATIC. Dealers are to remove and discard BOTH struts and apply preservation agent to both threaded studs at the longitudinal member in all affected vehicles.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

^ Please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously repaired.

^ Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin.

Approximately 1744 vehicles are affected.

Procedure

NOTE:
Refer to the MSDS for the preservation agent used in this procedure (via NetStar or the Parts Assistance Center website) for a complete description of hazards and other important safety information.

1. Remove lower engine cover.

2. Support front subframe with underhoist jack stand.





3. Remove torx bolt (A, Figure 1) and remove frame rail nut (B), then subframe strut (1).

Note:
Torx bolt will be reused.

4. Reinstall previously removed torx bolt and torque to 180 Nm.

5. Apply anti-corrosion wax on frame rail stud (C, Figure 1).

6. Repeat procedure on opposite side.

7. Reinstall lower engine cover in reverse order.

Note:
Both subframe struts and frame rail nuts can be discarded.

Repairs performed using any other part(s) will not have been performed in accordance with the campaign. Accordingly, warranty claims submitted with reference to an improper part number(s) will be denied.
