- with CODE (359) TELE AID emergency call system
Actuation
When the MB-Info and breakdown assistance button group (S93/6) is pressed in the corresponding direction, either the roadside assistance call (wrench icon symbol) or the Mercedes-Benz (MB)-Info call (the symbol is the letter "i") is actuated. If the MB-Info and breakdown assistance button group is pressed for longer than 0.5 s, the system is activated. System activation is indicated by the corresponding light-emitting diode (LED) flashing in the MB-Info and breakdown assistance button group. Regardless of the request, the MB-Info and breakdown assistance button group is read in by the emergency call system control unit (N123/4) via a discrete line. The emergency call system control unit automatically completes a voice connection to the service center.
Telediagnosis call (roadside assistance call)
The MB-Info and breakdown assistance button group is used to automatically send a message using the Short Message Service (SMS) to the service center. During a roadside assistance call, the following data are automatically transmitted as an SMS:
^ Vehicle position
^ Customer identification data
^ Vehicle identification data
^ Condition data Fault code
Transmission of roadside assistance call telegram
In the event of a service call (MB information calls or roadside assistance calls) any currently active telephone connections are interrupted. The emergency call system control unit sends an SMS to the nearest service center while also establishing a telephone connection to the service center.
Normally, the telephone connection is established through the telephone antenna (A2/49a1), which is on the roof of the vehicle.
In the event of a malfunction of the telephone antenna, e.g. with a rollover, the rear bumper of the vehicle is equipped with 2 emergency antennas, which mainly consist of the emergency call system antenna splitter (A2/25), left backup antenna, emergency call system (A2/54) and the right backup antenna, emergency call system (A2/55). The emergency call system control unit detects the antenna failure and then automatically actuates the backup antennas.
