- with CODE (359) TELE AID emergency call system
Component Identification:
Component Identification:
The emergency call system control unit (N123/4) is used to implement current and future in-vehicle services. The following are in-vehicle services that are currently being supported:
^ Telematic Alarm Identification on Demand (emergency call system) (TELE AID) (incl. emergency call number "911") manual/automatic
^ MB-Info call
^ Telediagnosis/roadside assistance
^ Tracking (dynamic assignment)
^ Remote door unlock (unlocking of vehicle in case of emergency)
^ Authorization
The emergency call system control unit is not used to make a regular phone call.
All telematics services are integrated in the emergency call system control unit and are fully automatic.
The functions are displayed in the display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1). Because position finding is necessary for the services, the navigation part integrated in the emergency call system control unit is used. The navigation part is a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver in the emergency call system control unit, which makes exact position finding possible. The position and the direction of movement of the vehicle is automatically determined and kept ready in a history documentation. The navigation part receives GPS data from the GPS antenna (A2/49a2). The communication part is a cellular phone that was adapted to the American cellular mobile telephone network, which is only used to process the telematics functions. The communication part transmits and receives data via the telephone antenna (A2/49a1). However, the prerequisite for using the services is a communication module of the emergency call system control unit authorized for the corresponding service.
In other words, the communication module of the emergency call system control unit must have been configured in the plant with the telephone number of the corresponding service provider. In a second step, the user has to become authorized in the service center by using this telephone number. Sometimes, the authorization already takes place in the plant. The telematics services are activated by pressing the corresponding button in the MB-Info and breakdown assistance button group (S93/6) or, in the event of a manual emergency call, by pressing the SOS switch (S93/3s1) in the overhead control panel control unit (N70). After activation, the emergency call system control unit transmits an SMS to the service center. After the SMS has been transmitted, a voice connection to the service center is established immediately.
Function requirements
Each telematics service has to be authorized separately. If there is a defect or no authorization, a fault message appears in the multifunction display of the instrument cluster and in the display of the COMAND control unit.
Self-test
If circuit 15R is active, the emergency call system control unit performs a self-test (approx. 3.5 s). If the test is successful, the system is operational.
Basic functions
^ Perform a cyclical self-diagnosis
^ Make vehicle data ready and if necessary transmit them safely
^ Transmit data messages (via SMS)
^ Placing a call in hands-free mode
Emergency call system
In the event that a driver gets into an emergency situation in a remote location, a service employee can get an overview of the situation inside the vehicle using the emergency call system control unit and initiate corresponding remedial measures (automatic emergency call). It is possible at any time to transmit the manual emergency call by operating the SOS switch in the overhead control panel.
The emergency call system is activated in the following two ways:
^ Automatically in the event of an accident (through the crash data by the supplemental restraint system (SRS))
^ Manually by operating the SOS switch in the overhead control panel
In both cases, an emergency call is automatically transmitted to the nearest emergency call center. Contents of the emergency call are:
^ Vehicle position, direction of travel, and history
^ Vehicle data and crash detection (severity of the accident)
^ Customer data of the emergency call service
Authorization
The prerequisite for using the services is a communication module of the emergency call system control unit authorized for the corresponding service. In other words, the communication module of the emergency call system control unit must have been configured in the plant with the telephone number of the corresponding service provider. Next, the user has to become authorized in the service center by using this telephone number.
Sometimes, the authorization already takes place in the plant. The telematics services are activated by pressing the corresponding button in the MB-Info and breakdown assistance button group or, in the event of a manual emergency call, by pressing the SOS switch in the overhead control panel. After activation, the emergency call system control unit transmits an SMS to the service center. After the SMS has been transmitted, a voice connection to the service center is established immediately.
Misuse of emergency call alarm is subject to punishment!
Terminating an emergency call
The call is usually deactivated by the emergency call center.
The connection setup in the event of an emergency call is aborted after the emergency call system control unit has made 5 unsuccessful dial attempts.
