Air Injection Pump: Description and Operation
GF14.30-P-2000BK Component Description For The Electric Air Pump
Location
The electrical air pump is located upstream of the intake manifold.
Task
Delivers air to the exhaust side of the engine.
Design
Electrically operated vane-type pump.
Function
During actuation, the voltage supply of the engine is performed via the air injection relay. The air pump (vane-type pump) is actuated for released air injection over the air pump relay parallel to the air pump switchover valve for a maximum of about 40 seconds. Its power consumption at 13 V is approx. 40 A. This draws the injected air from the air cleaner and drives this via the pressure connection via the air shutoff valves to the outlet ducts. If the air pump is running, for example due to incorrect actuation for longer than 4 minutes, it will be damaged.
Following actuation, air injection remains locked. A new enable of the air injection will only take place if the catalytic convertors cool down again due to a sufficiently long stop-page of the engine. The electrical air pump thus has sufficient time to cool down again.
Air injection may be actuated deliberately using STAR DIAGNOSIS for a maximum of 2 minutes. Prior to the next actuation, it is essential to maintain a cooling time of 30 minutes, otherwise the air pump may be damaged.
