Location
The air pump switchover valve is located at the front at the right cylinder head cover.







Task
The air pump switchover valve is supplied with vacuum from the intake manifold through a check valve. The air pump switchover valve, when actuated, switches the intake manifold pressure through to the air shutoff valve. These open and the air supplied by the air pump is forced through drillings to the outlet ducts.











The changeover valve on the air pump is actuated directly with a ground signal by the ME control unit when air injection is enabled. As a result, the armature plate is attracted by the electromagnet and the rubber seal shuts off the air admission.

The connection between port 2 and port 3 is opened. Thus there is a vacuum built up from the intake pipe to the aspirator shutoff valve. In the deenergized state the link again exists between connection 1 and 3 through which connection 3 is supplied with air again.
