^ Automatic button (11)
^ Heated rear window switch (N22s1)
^ Air recirculation switch (N22s2)
^ Window defrost switch (N22s3)
The AAC control and operating unit allows the following control actuations:
^ Switching the automatic air conditioning (AAC [KLA]) on and off
^ Separate interior temperature selection for left and right sides
^ Manual blower control
^ Manual air distribution
^ Automatic blower control and air distribution
^ Air recirculation mode
^ Defrost function
^ Actuation of heated rear window (R1)
^ Residual engine heat utilization system
^ Switching refrigerant compressor (A9) on and off
The AAC control and operating unit takes over control of the following:
Via the Control Area Network bus, class B (interior compartment) (CAN B):
- Refrigerant compressor (A9) and heat exchanger shutoff motor (M16/32) by the driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1)
- Coolant circulation pump (M13) by the passenger-side SAM control unit (N10/1)
Via Controller Area Network bus class C (engine compartment) (CAN-C):
- Engine and AC electric suction fan with integrated control (M4/7) via the central gateway control unit (N93), by the CDI control unit (N3/9) (with diesel engine) or the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (with gasoline engine)
Via local interconnect network (LIN):
- Blower regulator (A32n1)
- Fresh air/air recirculation flaps actuator motor (M2/5)
- Left blending air flap actuator motor (M2/6)
- Right blending air flap actuator motor (M2/7)
- Left and right footwell flaps actuator motor (M2/15
- Left and right defroster flaps actuator motor (M2/16)
- Center outlet flap actuator motor (M2/22)
- PTC heater booster (R22/3) (with diesel engine)
The following sensor signals are read in by the AAC control and operating unit:
^ Directly:
- in-car temperature sensor (B10/4)
- evaporator temperature sensor (B10/6)
^ Via LIN:
- air humidity sensor (B31/2)
^ Via CAN-B by the driver-side SAM control unit:
- refrigerant pressure and temperature sensor (B12/2) (up to 31.5.05)
- refrigerant pressure sensor (B12) (as of 1.6.05)
- outside temperature display temperature sensor (B14)
^ Via CAN-B
by the overhead control panel control unit (N70):
- in-car temperature sensor (N70b1)
Control possibilities
Left temperature selector wheel
Right temperature selector wheel
Turning each temperature selector wheel enables the specified temperature to be set for the left and right side.
Increase air volume button
Reduce air volume button
The air volume can be selected manually by actuating the appropriate button.
The selected setting is displayed by the respective LED in the air volume display lighting up.
Air distribution rocker
The air distribution can be set manually with the air distribution rocker. This is indicated by the respective LED lighting up on the air distribution display.
The setting selected at the air distribution rocker is displayed by the respective LED lighting up in the air distribution display.
Automatic button
The air volume and air distribution are regulated automatically when the automatic button is pressed. When the automatic mod is activated, the indicator LED comes on.
ON/OFF button
The automatic air conditioning can be completely switched off and on by pressing the ON/OFF button. The main air flap is closed or opened accordingly.
Residual heat button
The vehicle can be heated or ventilated only for up to 30 min by pressing the residual heat button. The function is only possible with circuit 15 off or circuit 15C on. If there is low voltage, the residual heat function is automatically switched off. The flaps are in automatic mode. The blower operates at a set fixed value. When the residua heat mode is activated, the indicator LED comes on.
AC button
Pressing the AC button switches the refrigerant compressor off. All other functions are retained.
Display logic of the indicator LED in the AC button
For vehicles up to 31.5.05, the indicator LED is off when the refrigerant compressor is on.
For vehicles as of 1.6.05, the indicator LED is on when the refrigerant compressor is on.
Heated rear window switch
When pressed, the AAC [KLA] control and operating unit transmits a switch-on request via CAN-B to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2), at the same time the indicator LED in the heated rear window switch is switched on.
Air recirculation switch
When the air recirculation switch is pressed briefly (< 1.5 s), the main air flap is closed to prevent air entering from outside. The indicator LED is illuminated during operation. When pressed for a longer period (> 1.5 s), the comfort opening/closing function of the windows and tilting/sliding roof (SHD) (for code (414) Power glass tilting/sliding roof) is also activated.
Window defrost switch
The temperature is set to "maximum" and the air flow distributed to the defroster and side air outlets. All the other flaps are closed. The blower is controlled depending on the coolant temperature. The indicator LED in the window defrost switch comes on.
