Valve Spring: Testing and Inspection

Preparation
- Valve springs removed (05-2500)

Overview
- Clean valve springs.

CAUTION: Replace valve springs which are not to dimensional tolerance, are corroded, have surface rust, mechanical damage or worn at the ends.

- Check, match color coding on valve springs, see table below.
- Measure spring force at pretensioned length.
If the valve springs do not achieve the specified spring force, they cause a loss of frictional connection at high engine speeds and should be replaced.
