Front Covers at Top, Removal and Installation



Preceding work:
- Cylinder head covers removed. Service and Repair
- Poly V-belt removed. Service and Repair

Procedure:





Left front cover (30a) on version with power steering pump: unbolt power steering pump with supporting plate (11). Tighten to 25 Nm on reassembly

NOTE:
- This is done by removing bolt at front (2) and bolts at rear (1).
- When installing bolt at front (2), coat with sealant 002 989 47 20 10.
- If tandem pump is fitted, pump remains installed; unscrew bottom left bolt for front cover with extended hexagon socket bit.

Right front cover with secondary air injection: unbolt secondary air injection valve at air pump support, push to the side, bolt on.

Cover on either/both side(s)
- Connector of camshaft adjuster solenoid (Y49): unplug, plug in.
- Unbolt and remove front cover (30) and (30a).
- Clean sealing surfaces.
- Coat contact surfaces of front cover (30) and (30a) to cylinder head with sealant 002 989 47 20 10.
- Coat bolts (28) and (29) with sealant 002 989 47 20 10.
- Install front covers (30) and (30a). Pay attention to dowel pins. Tighten to 25 Nm.
- Remainder of installation is reverse of removal procedure. Observe notes and tightening specifications.
- Run engine and check for leaks.

- Tightening torques:
Bolts of front covers 25 Nm
