MODELS 140.057/076 (WITH ENGINE 120) SUBSEQUENT INSTALLATION OF ENGINE BLOCK HEATER
An engine block heater is now available for the above-listed models. The attached Work Instructions no. 276A describes the installation of the block heater.
Note:
Customers should be advised that installation of a block heater in this model is at the customer's expense.

MODELS 140.057/076 (WITH ENGINE 120)
SUBSEQUENT INSTALLATION OF ENGINE BLOCK HEATER
1. Disconnect and cover battery negative terminal.
2. Lift vehicle.
3. Remove front and rear encapsulation panel from below engine.
4. Remove starter.
5. Drain engine coolant by first attaching a 14 mm inner diameter. 1500 mm long hose to the drain plug (b. Figure 1) in the engine block and then loosening the plug. Drain coolant into a suitable container for reuse later.
6. Remove core plug (on right side of crankcase near cylinder no. 6) with a 22 mm 6-point socket (a, Figure 1).
7. Install block heater (1, Figure 2) using rubber O-ring from the installation kit and not the alloy washer supplied. Tighten block heater with a 46 mm socket.
Tightening torque: 70 Nm
8. Attach electrical cable to block heater.
9. Reinstall starter.
10. Route cable forward along transmission oil cooler line using cable ties (arrows, Figure 3).
11. Route cable plug to a convenient location as per customer preference. Secure cable and plug with cable ties.
Note:
Ensure that cable is routed away from moving engine parts and sources of high heat.
12. Close coolant drain plug.
Tightening torque: 30 Nm
13. Reinstall encapsulation panels.
14. Reconnect battery.
15. Test coolant for sufficient antifreeze protection, refill and bleed cooling system. Pressure test system for leaks (Figure 4).
16. Run engine. Check for proper coolant level.

Note:
The subsequent installation of a block heater in the models listed below is at the customer's expense.
Additional time for "Engine compartment panel(s) - bottom, R & R" (see Time Guide microfiche, group no. 61) may be applied, provided it is not already included in another repair or maintenance service with the same repair date.
