Starter Motor: Service and Repair






1 Electric cable terminal 30

2 Electric cable terminal 50

3 Bolts

4 Bracket (model 202)

5 Bracket (engine 104 only in model 202)

6 Bracket

7 Clip/bracket (model 202)

M1 Starter

Removal Procedure

NOTE: On model 210 insulate terminal on ground cable to prevent unintentional contact between disconnected ground cable and ground W10.

1 Disconnect ground cable at battery.


NOTE: Engines 104 and 111 with air conditioning (code 580) in model 202.


2 Remove bottom engine compartment paneling.

3 Disconnect electric cables (1 and 2). Tightening torque:

Terminal 30 = 14 Nm
Terminal 50 = 6 Nm

4 Remove bracket (6).

5 Remove bracket (4, 5 and 7) on model 202


NOTE: On Engine 104 with automatic transmission in model 202.


6 Unbolt rear engine mount at the frame.

7 Unscrew bolts (3). Tighten Torque:

Starter bolts 42 Nm

NOTE: On Engine 104 in model 202, turn steering slightly to the left.


8 Remove starter 9M1) downward.

9 Reinstall in opposite order.
