C. Rear Apron (Model 140 Coupe)

Preparation





1. Open tail lamp cover and remove plastic rivet (arrow, Figure 9).





2. Remove rivets (arrows, Figure 10).

3. Push trim pieces to side or top and remove mounting screws and washers (qty. 6).

4. Remove bumper towards rear.

Disassembling the bumper





5. Remove clips and chrome moldings, (Figure 11), SMS Job No. 88-225.
Remove left and right mounting screws and remove beam.
Using a screwdriver, press retaining clip out of outer mounting. Drill out the side mounting brackets.

Assembly

6. Insert beam into AMG rear skirt.

7. Press upper and lower retaining tabs into place.

8. Install left and right mounting screws.

9. Install side brackets with screws supplied (flat head screws on top).





10. Install chrome moldings and clips (Figure 12).

11. Press the rubber washers provided on to the mounting studs (Figure 12).

Final assembly

12. Install rear apron/bumper assembly on vehicle without fully tightening mounting bolts.





13. Inspect alignment of assembly and adjust if necessary (A = 5 mm, Figure 13).

14. Tighten mounting bolts.

15. Reinstall trim pieces and tail lamp cover.
