A. Front Air Dam/Bumper Cover (Model 124)

Removing original bumper





1. Remove bolt from left and right side brackets.





2. Remove the four nuts and washers on left and right frame brackets.





3. Remove center mounting nut and washer from bumper.

4. Remove temperature sensor from license plate cover by removing black plastic cover and Phillips head screw. Pull cable through opening in bumper. Remove bumper.

5. Remove foam impact absorber sections.





6. Remove rub strip (B, Figure 4) by unscrewing six Phillips head screws on left and right ends of bumper.

Using a screwdriver, pry back retaining tabs two at a time starting from the outside. Remove rub strip and foam inserts.





7. Disconnect bracket by drilling out rivets in side bracket (Figure 5). Unscrew the three front brackets.

8. Insert driving lamps into openings provided and secure in place using rivets supplied.

9. Install front three brackets to AMG air dam/bumper cover. Install left and right side brackets on air dam/bumper cover using bolts, U-washers, and nuts supplied.





10. Position rub strip and foam inserts (Figure 7) on air dam/bumper cover and press retaining tabs into slots. Install 3 Phillips head screws into left and right ends of bumper.

11. Slide reinforcement beam (Figure 7) supplied between original impact absorber sections and upper edge of air dam/bumper cover.

Final assembly

12. Install the bumper and spoiler assembly on vehicle without tightening bolts fully.

13. Inspect alignment of assembly and adjust if necessary.

14. Tighten mounting bolts. Align engine mount cooling tube (if equipped) with openings in driving lamp recess.

15. Route wiring so as to avoid any chafing. Secure wiring using clips and wire ties supplied. Install temperature sensor on license plate bracket.





16. Install the combined 6-pin plug/socket (a, Figure 8) in the vehicle and insert between the 4-pin socket on the headlamp assembly (b) and the 4-pin standard production plug (c).

Note:
U.S. version vehicles have only 4 pins. Remove the 2 unused pins on end of plug nearest to harness.





17. Adjust driving lamps by turning Phillips head screws.





18. Warm AMG logo and mounting surface to 40 °C using heat gun. Apply logo according to Figure 10.

Optional procedure - Transferring chrome moldings from original bumper cover to AMG air dam/bumper cover assembly

^ Trial fit moldings before painting bumper cover. Lip needs to be removed in area of molding.

^ Drill holes in AMG part according to production bumper cover.

^ Paint bumper without moldings, then install moldings and clips on left and right side.

^ Modify reinforcement beam in area of clips.
