Front Covers at Top, Removal and Installation



Preceding work:
- Remove cylinder head covers. Service and Repair
- Distributor driver removed.

Procedure





- Left front cover (30a): Remove cap (23) and filter (18) at reservoir (13) of power steering pump.
- Left front cover (30a): extract oil in reservoir (13) with hand pump, special tool 112 589 00 72 00.

Installation Note: Fill power steering pump and bleed.

- Left front cover: Unbolt oil line (15).

Installation Note: Replace 0-ring (14).

- Left front cover (30a): Unscrew bolts (17) (Torx E8).
- Left front cover (30a): Remove reservoir (13) with gasket (12).

Installation Note: Replace gasket (12) according to condition.

- Unplug connector of solenoid (Y49) of camshaft adjuster.
- Unbolt bracket of cover (1) or (1 a).

Installation Note: Clip ignition cable and ignition cable duct into bracket of cover (1) or (1a).

- Unbolt and remove front covers (30) and (30a).
- Clean sealing surfaces.
- Coat front covers (30) and (30a) at contact surfaces to cylinder head with sealant 002 989 47 20 10.
- Coat bolts (28) and (29) with sealant 002 989 47 20 10.
- Fit insertion sleeve (01) onto exhaust camshafts, special tool 119 589 00 14 00.
- Install and bolt on front covers (30) and (30a). Tighten to (21 Nm).
- Remainder of installation is reverse of removal procedure. Observe all installation notes and tightening specifications.
- Check leaks with engine running.

Tightening Torques:
Bolts of front covers 25 Nm
Reservoir at power steering pump (Torx E8) 9 Nm
