NOTE: Some or all of the special tools shown in the image are required to perform these testing procedures. If Mercedes special tools are not available, select tools may be substituted with an aftermarket equivalent.

Test Equipment Hook-up:
PREPARATION FOR TEST
1. Ignition: OFF.
2. Remove diagnostic module (N59).
3. Install socket box and test harness according to connection diagram.
4. Test steps DM 1.2 - 1.3 and 2.1 - 2.2 only: Ignition OFF, remove base module (N16/1) and connect socket box with contact module 1 and contact box, see Test Steps BM BM (Base Module)
NOTES:
a. When performing test and adjustment work, the engine rpm should only be raised using the accelerator pedal. If the engine speed is raised via the control linkage in the engine compartment, the "limp-home" mode will become active and will be registered in the idle speed/cruise control malfunction memory as a fault.
b. Note regarding "Test Connection" column:
The numbers indicated in parentheses, for example, (1.28) signify:
1 = Connector 1 in wiring diagram
23 = Socket 28 in wiring diagram
