SUBJECT: GROUP 00 - ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC IMPULSE COUNTER FOR MODELS 140, 400E/500E


WE HAVE BECOME AWARE THAT THERE IS A RISK OF DAMAGE TO THE IMPULSE COUNTER WHEN USED ON MODEL 140 OR THE NEW 400E/500E. THE REPORTED DAMAGES WERE THE RESULT OF INCORRECT CONNECTION OF THE IMPULSE COUNTER TO [1][2]DIAGNOSTIC CONNECTOR X11/4. EACH CASE OF DAMAGE HAPPENED BY CONNECTING THE IMPULSE COUNTER YELLOW LEAD TO SOCKET 2 OF THE DIAGNOSTIC ADAPTOR. THIS ERROR IS PARTIALLY DUE TO THE CONNECTION DIAGRAM ILLUSTRATION PROVIDED IN THE INTRODUCTION MANUAL AND DIAGNOSTIC MANUALS OF THE 1992 MODEL 129 AND 140 LITERATURE. THIS ILLUSTRATION SHOWS THE YELLOW IMPULSE COUNTER LEAD IN A VERY CLOSE PROXIMITY OF SOCKET 2 OF THE DIAGNOSTIC CONNECTOR ADAPTOR.

NEVER CONNECT THE YELLOW IMPULSE COUNTER LEAD TO A VOLTAGE CIRCUIT. REFER TO THE TABLE IN SECTION 0 LOCATED IN THE FRONT OF EACH DIAGNOSTIC MANUAL. THIS TABLE WILL INDICATE THE RESPECTIVE SOCKET THAT THE YELLOW LEAD IS TO BE CONNECTED TO FOR ALL ONBOARD DIAGNOSTICS RELATED TO CONNECTOR X11/4.
