Engine Block Heater - Procedures for Installation

SUBJECT:
Models 124.0341036, 210.072 (With Engine 119) subsequent installation of engine block heater.

Engine block heaters are now available for the above-listed models. The attached Work Instructions no. 275A describes the installation of the block heater.

Note:
Customers should be advised that installation of a block heater in these models is at the customer's expense.

SUBJECT:MODELS 124.0341036, 210.072 (WITH ENGINE 119) SUBSEQUENT INSTALLATION OF Engine BLOCK HEATER

1. Lift vehicle.

2. Remove encapsulation panel from below engine and left side encapsulation panel.

3. Drain engine coolant at drain plug on left side of engine block. Drain coolant into a suitable container for reuse later.

4. Remove left air duct for engine mount cooling. (models 124.034/036)

5. Remove core plug (b, Figure 1) with a 22 mm 6-point socket.

6. Install block heater using rubber O-ring from the installation kit and not the alloy washer supplied. Tighten block heater with a 46 mm socket.

Tightening torque: 70 Nm

7. Attach electrical cable to block heater.

8. Route electrical cable (A, Figure 2) along transmission oil cooler line to front of vehicle and attach with cable ties (arrows).

Note:
Excess cable may be tied to the transmission oil cooler.

9. Route cable plug to a convenient location as per customer preference. Secure cable and plug with cable ties.

Note:
Ensure that cable is routed away from moving engine parts and sources of high heat.

10. Reinstall all encapsulation panels.

11. Test coolant for sufficient antifreeze protection, refill and bleed cooling system. Pressure test system for leaks (Figure 3).

12. Run engine. Check for proper coolant level.

Note:
The subsequent installation of a block heater in the model listed below is at the customers expense.

Additional time for "Engine compartment panel(s) - bottom, R & R" (see Time Guide microfiche, group no.61) may be applied, provided it is not already included in another repair or maintenance service with the same repair date.
