Throttle Cable/Linkage: Adjustments

Accelerator Linkage Assembly:

1. Disconnect rod (2).

^ Verify that the throttle valve rests against the idle stop. If not, repair or replace the throttle valve as necessary.

2. Reconnect rod (2).

^ If there is tension on the rod when reconnecting adjust it so that the roller (15) rests against the end stop without tension in the slotted link arm (13).

3. Disconnect rod (8).
4. Adjust rod (8) to approx. 4-9/64 in. (105 mm) measured from the center of the ball sockets. Reconnect the rod.
5. Disconnect the A/T control pressure cable (11).
6. With the engine (OFF) depress the accelerator pedal completely to the full throttle stop (36) or, with A/T to the stop of the kickdown switch (38).

^ The throttle valve lever must rest against the full throttle stop. If necessary adjust the control linkage (4) to attain the correct position.

7. Let the accelerator pedal return to the idle position slowly.

^ The roller (15) in the slotted link arm (13) must contact the end stop without tension and the micro-switch (S27/2) must be actuated. If either the idle or full throttle position is not achieved check the length of pushrod (5). Pushrod (5) should be 8-11/64 in. (220 mm) long measured from the center of the ball sockets.

8. Reconnect the A/T control pressure cable without tension. If necessary adjust nut (43) to attain the proper adjustment.

CRUISE CONTROL ADJUSTMENT

Cruise Control Linkage:

9. Verify that the final control element contacts the idle speed stop of the cruise control. To do so, disconnect pushrod (21) from lever (14) and push the lever of the control element clockwise against the idle speed stop.
11. Reconnect the pushrod (21) and ensure that the lever of the control element is lifted by approx. 3/64 in. (1 mm) off the idle speed stop. If necessary adjust rod (21) to attain the proper setting.
