Oil dipstick - oil filling capacities
The oil pan is filled with 6.5 liters of oil (previously 6.0 liters) since April 1984. The oil dipstick has been changed accordingly. It is provided with an ocher- colored handle (previously white).

1) When the previously used oil dipsticks (white) are used up, only the modified dipstick will be available and can be subsequently installed.
NOTE: There are four oil pan upper half versions.

a) Oil pan upper half with a connection for oil return line (10) from exhaust gas turbocharger.
Installed on engines 617.950 (model 116.120) without EGR (USA) and 617.952 (model 123) with automatic transmission 722.120 (W4B025).
b) Oil pan upper half with two connections for oil return line (10) from exhaust gas turbocharger and from cyclonic oil separator (8) in air cleaner.
Installed in engine 617.950 (model 116.120) with EGR (USA).
c) Oil pan upper half with integrated supporting shell and a connection for oil return line (10) from exhaust gas turbocharger.
Installed on engine 617.952 (model 123) with automatic transmission 722.303 (W4A040).
d) Oil pan upper half with integrated supporting shell and two connections for oil return line (10) from exhaust gas turbocharger and from cyclonic oil separator (8) in air cleaner.
Installed on engine 617.951 (model 126.120) and 617.952 (model 123) with automatic transmission 722.303 (W4A040).
Spare part oil pan upper halves for engines with EGR (USA) are provided with check valve (7) and oil return line (8).
They cannot be installed on engines without EGR.
On model 126.120, remove and install engine for this purpose.

Oil pan for (USA) and California
Only 2 oil pan versions are available from now on as spare part for engine 617.95.
a) Oil pan without supporting shell - for vehicles with automatic transmission 722.120 (W 4 B 025).
b) Oil pan with integrated supporting shell - for vehicles with automatic transmission 722.303 (W 4 A 040).
Both oil pans are provided with a bore (a) for connection of oil return line of cyclonic oil separator.
On engines with cyclonic oil separator ((USA) only for California starting model year 1980 and for Federal use starting model year 1981), insert pipe connection (at bottom left in Fig. cutout) into bore (a).
On all other engines, insert closing plug (at bottom left in cutout) flush into bore (a).
