Engine - Chain Tensioner, Defective Gasket

SUBJECT: CHAIN TENSIONER GASKET ENGINES 116.962/963 AND 117.963 MODELS 107.045 AND 126.03/04


Between December 1983 and May 1984, gaskets were installed on the chain tensioner which may swell and develop oil leaks.

Vehicles with the affected engines should have the gasket (2, Figure 1) replaced (under warranty) during the next service or repair work. Mark the chain tensioner flange with blue paint after repairs.

The modified gasket can be identified by the "elring" imprint.. The part number is the same.

Stocks of the gasket 116 052 03 80 without "elring" imprint should be returned to your PDC. In addition, replace the gasket in the following repair-and gasket kits if found without the "elring" imprint:

All gaskets removed from your stock are to be returned to your PDC no later than March 29, 1985.

O2-0510 51-55 Chain Tensioner Gasket, Replace 0.5 hr.

02-0511 11 Chain Tensioner Gasket, Replace 0.5 hr.
