SUBJECT: DISCONNECTED VACUUM HOSE FOR ENGINE SHUT-OFF DIESEL ENGINE 601.921
FIGURE 1 1 - VACUUM PUMP:
On early production vehicles, the rubber vacuum hose (arrow) that is pushed on the vacuum pump fitting may slip off in some instances, making it impossible to shut off the engine via the ignition key (Figure 1).
This problem was corrected since February 1984 production, beginning with the following chassis end number..
Production Change: February 1984
Model Engine Chassis End Number
201.122 601.921 1A 070063
When a vehicle with a chassis end number prior to the above comes in for service, check for a tight vacuum hose fit on the vacuum pump. If hose is found to be loose, remove hose, degrease the vacuum hose fitting and install a new piece of vacuum hose without any lubrication.
Identify a secure vacuum hose by placing an easily visible white dot on the base of the fitting.
