Programmed Repairs (Symptom Based Repairs)

NOTE: At operating temperature, the oil pressure at idle may drop to 0.3 gauge pressure. When accelerating, oil pressure should immediately go up again and achieve at least 3 bar gauge pressure at 3000/min.

Complaint:
No oil pressure at idle

Cause/Remedy:
Check oil pressure relief valve at oil pump, insert with sealing compound if dropped out.

Complaint:
Oil pressure at idle below 0.3 bar gauge pressure.

Cause/Remedy:
1. Check engine oil level, correct, if required.
2. Check previous pressure indication by connecting another oil pressure gauge instead of vehicle instrument
3. Measure oil filter riser pipe.
4. Rubber seal in oil filter element pushed out.
5. Check oil filter for abrasive dust from bearings.
6. Replace oil filter element.
7. Experimentally replace oil pressure relief valve in oil pump.
8. Experimentally replace oil pump.
9. Measure main and connecting rod bearings.

Complaint:
Oil pressure is in order in lower speed range, but drops at increasing speed.

Cause/Remedy:
1. Check engine oil level. Oil level should not be below bottom mark and not above top mark on oil dipstick.

NOTE: The oil level is measured on warm engine approx. 2 - 3 minutes following shutoff.

2. Check oil pan lower half for damage, replace dented oil pan.
3. Check rubber compensator on strainer of oil pump for deformation or damage.

Complaint:
Vibrating (oscillating) oil pressure gauge needle.

Cause/Remedy:
Install throttle pin, part No. 123 542 00 74 .
