Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Testing and Inspection
TRANSAXLE RANGE (TR) SWITCH INSPECTION [FS5A-EL]
CAUTION:
- Do not allow foreign material or water to penetrate the connector. Otherwise, it could cause poor contact and corrosion.
System Inspection
1. Verify that the engine starts when the selector lever is in the P or N position only.
2. Verify that the back-up light illuminates when the selector lever is in the R position.
3. Verify that the displays for the shifted position and shift position indicator light are the same when the selector lever is shifted to each position.
- If there is any malfunction, adjust the TR switch. Adjustments
On-Vehicle Inspection
1. Apply the parking brake firmly, and set the wheel blocks for both the front and rear wheels.
2. Disconnect the TR switch connector.
a. Remove the battery cover. Removal and Replacement
b. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
c. Remove the air cleaner component. Service and Repair
d. Disconnect the TR switch connector.
3. Measure the resistance and continuity between the TR switch terminals.
- If there is any malfunction, adjust the TR switch. Adjustments
- If a malfunction occurs after performing adjustments, replace the TR switch. Service and Repair
