Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair





TRANSAXLE RANGE (TR) SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [FS5A-EL]

CAUTION:
- Do not allow foreign material or water to penetrate the connector. Otherwise, it could cause poor contact and corrosion.

1. Apply the parking brake firmly, and set the wheel blocks for both the front and rear wheels.

2. Shift the selector lever to the N position.

3. Remove the battery cover. Removal and Replacement

4. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

5. Remove the air cleaner component. Service and Repair

6. Remove in the order shown in the figure.

7. Install in the reverse order of removal.

8. Inspect the TR switch. Testing and Inspection









Manual Shaft Nut Removal Note

1. Fix the manual shaft lever using an adjustable wrench and loosen the manual shaft nut.






CAUTION:
- Do not loosen the manual shaft nut using an impact wrench. When loosening the manual shaft nut, fix the manual shaft lever so that torque is not applied to the manual shaft.
- If torque is applied to the manual shaft, it could cause bending or breakage of the spring pin on the manual shaft, damage to the TR switch, and a shift malfunction.

TR Switch Installation Note

1. Verify that the manual shaft is in the N position.






2. Adjust the TR switch so that the resistance between TR switch terminals B and C is 713-787 ohms.






3. Tighten the TR switch installation bolts.

Tightening torque
- 8-11 Nm {82-112 kgf-cm, 71-97 in-lbf}

Manual Shaft Nut Installation Note

1. Fix the manual shaft lever using an adjustable wrench and tighten the manual shaft nut.






CAUTION:
- Do not tighten the manual shaft nut using an impact wrench. When tightening the manual shaft nut, fix the manual shaft lever so that torque is not applied to the manual shaft.
- If torque is applied to the manual shaft, it could cause bending or breakage of the spring pin on the manual shaft, damage to the TR switch, and a shift malfunction.

Tightening torque
- 32-46 Nm {3.3-4.6 kgf-m, 24-33 ft-lbf}
