SHIFT-LOCK SYSTEM INSPECTION
Shift-Lock System Inspection
1. Switch the ignition ON.
2. Shift the selector lever to the P position.
3. Inspect the shift-lock system as follows:
- If there is any malfunction, replace the shift-lock solenoid.
a. Verify that the selector lever cannot be shifted to the R from P position when the brake pedal is not depressed.
b. Verify that the selector lever can be shifted to the R from P position when the brake pedal is depressed.
Shift-Lock Solenoid Inspection
CAUTION:
- Do not allow foreign material or water to penetrate the connector. Otherwise, it could cause poor contact and corrosion.
1. Disconnect the selector lever component connector.
a. Remove the battery cover. Removal and Replacement
b. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
c. Remove the center console box. Center Console Box Removal/Installation
d. Remove the console panel. Console Panel Removal/Installation
e. Remove the center console. Center Console Removal/Installation
f. Remove the selector lever knob.
g. Remove the shift panel. Shift Panel Removal/Installation
h. Remove the side wall. Side Wall Removal/Installation
i. Remove the front console. Front Console Removal/Installation
j. Disconnect the selector lever component connector.
2. Measure the voltage between the selector lever component terminals and GND.
- If there is any malfunction, repair or replace the related wiring harness.
- If there is no malfunction, replace the selector lever component. Automatic Transaxle Shift Mechanism Removal/Installation
Shift-lock solenoid voltage
Shift-Lock Release System Inspection
1. Switch the ignition OFF (LOCK).
2. Verify that the selector lever is in the P position.
3. Verify that the selector lever cannot be shifted to the R from P position when the brake pedal is not depressed.
4. Remove the shift-lock release hole cover using a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver.
5. Insert flathead screwdriver into the shift-lock release hole.
6. Verify that the selector lever can be shifted to the R from P position.
