SUBJECT: MIL ON WITH DTC P0451:00

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2012 Mazda5 vehicles with VINs lower than JM1CW******138553
(produced before April 10, 2012)

DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may experience the MIL on with DTC P0451:00 stored in memory. This is caused by foreign material adhering to the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor. To prevent this from happening, the installation angle of the FTP sensor has been changed.

P0451:00: Fuel tank pressure sensor range/performance problem

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

3. Lift the vehicle up on a hoist.





4. Remove the original evaporation hose assembly (A) and short cord (B), and discard them. Refer to MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual section 01-16 CHARCOAL CANISTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 2.5].

5. Install the modified evaporation hose assembly (with FTP sensor) and short cord.

6. Lower the vehicle.

7. Connect the negative battery cable.

8. Clear the DTC stored in the PCM.

9. Verify repair.
