RATTLE NOISE FROM WINDSHIELD WHEN DRIVING
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2011 Mazda2
DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may exhibit a rattling noise from the windshield (A) when driving.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.
2. Perform the appropriate repair procedure according to the table below.
3. Remove the cowl grille (both right and left) according to MS3 online or Workshop Manual (section 09-16 COWL GRILLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION). (Common for both procedure A and B)
PROCEDURE A
1. From the Noise Repair Kit TA01-76-100, cut the following from the black 5.0mm thick foam pad (Original size of the pad out of a new kit = 100mm x 150mm x 5.0mm). Cut the pad into the following sizes:
^ 2 (A) pieces 12mm X 150mm for the bottom of the cowl grille.
^ 2 (B) pieces 12mm X 70mm for the bottom of the cowl grille.
^ 2 (C) pieces 30mm X 50mm for the top of the left and right brackets (D).
2. Attach pad (A) (12mm x 150mm) and pad (B) (12mm x 70mm) to the bottom of both left and right side of the cowl grilles as illustrated.
NOTE:
^ Leave a 5mm space from the edge of the cowl grille.
^ Leave a 2mm space from the edge of the cowl grille.
3. Attach the (C) pads (30mm x 50mm) to the top of both of the left and right bracket (D) as illustrated.
4. Reinstall both right and left cowl grilles. Refer to MS3 online or Workshop Manual (section 09-16 COWL GRILLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION). (Common for both procedure A and B).
PROCEDURE B
1. Remove the original protectors (0.4mm thickness) attached on the tabs back side of the cowl grille.
2. Clean the area where the original protectors (A) were attached to the cowl grille (B), then attach the new protectors (2.0mm thickness), total 9 pieces. Windshield glass (C) is shown for clarity.
3. Reinstall both right and left cowl grilles. Refer to MS3 online or Workshop Manual (section 09-16 COWL GRILLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION). (Common for both procedure A and B).
