Cooling System - MIL ON/DTC P0128 Set

MIL ON WITH DTC P0128

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2011 Mazda2 vehicles built before JM1 DE**** B* 124777 (February 9, 2011)

DESCRIPTION





Some vehicles may experience MIL illumination with DTC P0128 thermostat stuck open) stored in memory during engine warm-up at idle. This may be caused by the thermostat jiggle-pin (A) contacting the thermostat cover.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Remove the thermostat. Refer to MS3 online or Workshop Manual (section 01-12 THERMOSTAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 1.5]).

NOTE:
^ Existing coolant will be reused. Use a clean container to collect engine coolant.

^ Existing thermostat and thermostat cover will be reused.

3. Perform thermostat inspection. Refer to M53 online or Workshop Manual (section 01-12 THERMOSTAT INSPECTION [MZR 1.5]).

4. Did the thermostat inspection show any failures?

^ No - Proceed to Step 5.

^ Yes - This bulletin does not apply. Refer to M53 online or Workshop Manual (section 01-12 THERMOSTAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 1.5]).

5. Set the thermostat with the jiggle-pin on top.

6. While pushing the thermostat cover (A) upward fully, tighten the two thermostat cover bolts.





7. Bleed cooling system using SST Lisle Spill-Free Funnel L1524610.





8. Verify repair.
