Interior - Instrument Cluster Rattle While Driving

RATTLE NOISE FROM INSTRUMENT CLUSTER

2010 Mazda6 vehicles produced from Sept. 21, 2009 through Oct. 8, 2009

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may exhibit a rattle noise coming from the instrument cluster while driving the vehicle.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Record customers preset radio stations.

3. Disconnect negative battery cable.

4. Lower steering column to lowest position.





5. Remove meter hood according MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual (section 09-17 METER HOOD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).





6. Remove instrument cluster according MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual (section 09-22 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).





7. Identify the area where the instrument cluster and bracket meet.





8. Use a long handle noise pliers to hold the foam pad.

9. Insert the foam pad into the instrument cluster opening to fill the gap between the instrument cluster and bracket.

10. Use the pliers to push the pad in all the way.

11. Visually check the position of the pad.

12. Reinstall instrument cluster according MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual (section 09-22 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

13. Reinstall meter hood according MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual (section 09-17 METER HOOD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

14. Reconnect negative battery cable.

15. Re-enter customers preset radio stations.

16. Return steering column to middle position.

17. Verify repair.
