Engine - Vibration/MIL ON/DTC's P0302:00/P0300:00
Bulletin No.: 01-036/09Last Issued: 08/11/2009
Subject:
ENGINE VIBRATION AND/OR MIL ON WITH DTC P0302:00 OR P0300:00
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2010 Mazda3 vehicles with 2.5L (L5) and A/T (CA spec PZEV only) with VINs lower than JM1 BL**6*** 156213 (produced before May 14, 2009)
DESCRIPTION
On some vehicles, a vibration may be felt through the steering and/or the seat for about 30 seconds when the vehicle is first started in the morning, or the MIL may come on with DTC P0302:00 (Cylinder No. 2 misfire detected). Depending on the vehicle, DTC P0300:00 (Random misfire detected) may also be stored.
When the swirl control shutter valve (SCV) of the intake manifold (A) is closed, and there is too much clearance between the SCV and intake port, the combustion becomes unstable during cold start idling with the SCV closed. This causes a vibration and the MIL to come ON due to a misfire.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Follow the DTC P0302:00 and/or DTC P0300 failure diagnosis procedure using MS3 online instructions or the Workshop Manual. If not problem is found, go to the next step.
2. Access FFD (Freeze Frame Data) in MMDS. If all of the following FFD items correspond to the judgement criteria below, replace the intake manifold with the one listed in the PARTS INFORMATION using MS3 online instructions or the Workshop Manual section 01-13.
3. Verify repair.
